Over the weekend, 4 lucky kiddos got to have a Christmas cookie baking day with Mrs. Schrader and Mrs. Gillen! This was a "Teacher Treasure" experience won at our annual Blue and Gold Auction. They had a blast baking and decorating - just look at those smiles! Fingers crossed they made enough to share with the whole school...or at least the staff! 😉

Have you done your Christmas cookie baking yet? 🍪🍫

It's that time of year again - Spotify Wrapped season! Swipe for a bit of fun and see what our teachers and staff are listening to. Even Fr. R.J. wanted to get in on the fun! 🎧👏

We are so thankful to The Aim Higher Foundation for all the work they do for Catholic schools, and we are beyond thrilled to have the Bergsons in this St. Thomas More family! Their testimony is one of strength, hope, and gratitude, and we invite you to take a few moments to listen and reflect on their words. More clips can be found on YouTube here: youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1AWgjdJjJSPBe8jqWf4nXHV4lPersfXN&si=KMhtBj2gpsgM0iet ... See MoreSee Less

Last week our Mores 4s and Preschoolers celebrated Thanksgiving in their own way: turkey hats and friendship snacks! Each of them were asked to bring their favorite snack to share, which were then dumped in a bowl and mixed together. Nothing like sharing a potluck meal with friends to celebrate the holidays! 💛🦃🥨

What favorite snack item would you bring to share with friends?

We’ve wrapped up November, otherwise known as National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo for short)! Every day during Language Arts, our 6th graders spent the first 10 minutes of class writing a novel. Word counts were tallied as each class aimed to write the most words. Combined, they wrote over 243,000 words! Be sure to ask STM 6th graders about their novels.

The writing process began with each student creating a "plot diagram," where 6th graders outlined the major events of their book and branched out with smaller events, creating a rough outline to follow. Stories ranged from time traveling through medieval times, to a magical computer, to an aspiring footballer in England. Genres spanned from dystopian futures with corrupt governments, to action/adventures with stellar sidekicks. Some channeled their favorite authors (Stuart Gibbs, Suzanne Collins, Jeff Kinney) while some channeled their favorite books (Uglies, Percy Jackson, Eragon).

Hear from some of our 6th graders, partway through the writing process:

“I really like taking the time to write everyday, and make a story that is all my own. I love to read and read all the time, so it’s fun using my creative abilities this way.” -Edie W.

“It’s really fun! I write about different emotions I have that I can’t really process, so I find myself relating to the story a lot. It’s a helpful thing for me.” -Frances R.
